Instrument Coordinator - Sterile Processing (Part Time)

PeaceHealth is seeking a Instrument Coordinator - Sterile Processing (Part Time) for a 0.8 full time equivalent Non-Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

Responsible for the coordination and management of surgical instrumentation to support maintaining and operation of database for all current, consigned, and loaned instrument sets; and collaborating with Surgical Services Specialty Charge Nurses and all other unit leaders in the allocation and maintenance of instrumentation.



1. Assist in the development and maintenance of system to track surgical instrumentation, as well as monitoring repairs and down time for broken or missing instruments.

2. Manage ingress and egress of all loaned and consigned instrumentation in collaboration with company vendors, charge nurses and other institutions.

3. In collaboration with Specialty Charge Nurses and Educators, provide support for clinical education on new instrumentation.

4. In concert with manager, develop policies for care, handling, and transport of all loaned and consigned instrumentation. Report vendor noncompliance and maintain accountability.

5. Support front line caregivers in use and application of inventory management system. Rotate weekend admin on call, assist in management of inventory system downtime.

6. Collaborate with Specialty Charge Nurses, Sterile Processing, Material Management team, and other clinical stakeholders to facilitate the timely and accurate ordering of instrumentation.

7. Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS (required unless otherwise designated)



  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.



  • Minimum of five years in a Sterile Processing field with experience in all surgical specialties.
  • Strong leadership skills and prior experience managing assets or systems highly desired.
  • Prior management experience preferred.



  • Current CRCST license in state of practice.
  • CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) required within one year of hire.



  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with many interruptions.
  • Knowledgeable of surgical instrumentation.
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office and other related software applications.
  • Strong communication skills.



  • Work requires active physical exertion at least 66% of the time with ability to push and pull carts exceeding 100 lbs. unassisted at times.   
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or more.
  • Work requires frequent exposure to skin or lung irritants, extreme cold or heat, sharp instruments or dangerous equipment; reasonable anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.           
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).      
  • Ability to stand on feet for the duration of any scheduled shift; ability to stoop and bend consistently without restrictions.
