PeaceHealth is seeking candidates for a Supervisor role in the Environmental Services department at St. John Medical Center in Longview, Washington.   This is a full-time exempt position (1.0 FTE) that will work variable shifts/hours.

Responsible for monitoring the overall services, developing quality and performance indicators, gathering data for analysis as well as ensuring continuous improvement to optimize services and stewardship of resources. Staffing and scheduling.


Under the direction of the Manager/Director, this position provides operational oversight and supervision of the assigned Environmental Services staff and is responsible for effective and collaborative leadership of assigned staff.




  1. Links mission into day-to-day work, focuses on meeting organization/departmental targets, monitors budget variances and recommends or develops plans for improvement, assures regulatory compliance.
  2. Recommends selection of staff, monitors and evaluates performance and accountability of staff.  Evaluates competence and initiates performance improvement plans to develop staff, provides meaningful and constructive feedback.
  3. Works with leadership to assist in the development of policies, procedures, and enhancements to the delivery of services, and operations of the department.
  4. Supervise assigned staff and assist the Manager/Director with hiring, firing, coaching, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations/management.
  5. Coordinate daily activities and workflow of assigned staff.   Establish and maintain housekeeping schedules and assign employees to areas for various housekeeping duties.
  6. Ensure that assignments are appropriately staffed and that employees have adequate supplies and equipment for completion of assignments.
  7. Tour assigned areas regularly, reviewing each assigned area to observe cleaning crews, conduct performance audit of work crews, and to determine compliance with instructions and quality of work ensuring that all applicable regulations and procedures/policies are followed/met.
  8. Discuss general housekeeping procedures with personnel of the assigned area; recommend and implement changes in procedures.
  9. Maintain records and submit reports concerning personnel, equipment, supplies, expense and general housekeeping activities.
  10. Submit Maintenance work order in a timely manner to correct any mechanical, structural, or electrical condition in need of repair or replacement.
  11. May be responsible for payroll submission function for assigned staff.
  12. Provide technical expertise to staff.
  13. Be able to directly assist in all levels of accomplishment of daily work assignments.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.





  • College course work in related field preferred.



  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
  • Previous experience in hospital environmental services preferred.



  • Executive Housekeeper Certificate preferred.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification may be required.
  • May be required to have valid driver’s license.



  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications
  • Ability to multi task
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to teach and train staff
  • Ability to learn new computer applications



  • Work requires moderate physical exertion from 34 to 65% of the time.      
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation. Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids. 
  • Hazards may include exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, soiled linens, unknown liquid in trash bags and biohazards (sharps).           
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
