Biomedical Technician II

PeaceHealth is seeking a Biomedical Technician II for a 1.0 full time equivalent Non-Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

Performs a wide variety of maintenance tasks associated with the installation, preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration and repair of biomedical equipment with general supervisory oversight.  Adheres to applicable policies and procedures related to maintenance delivery and documentation.  Subject matter expert on some Biomed systems.



  1. Installs, repairs and calibrates most classes of clinical equipment at the component level.  Performs planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections; inspects incoming equipment for compliance with code, standards, and manufacture recommendations; maintains documentation as required by management and as outlined by current policies and procedures; and documents time and expense in a timely manner.
  2. Assists with detailed purchase specifications for new equipment and in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories, and supplies. 
  3. Assists with the administrative responsibilities of the department, including work order control, maintenance history records, preventative maintenance and safety inspection records, purchase requests, and repair parts inventory records. Actively participates in the development and maintenance of the Biomed computerized Maintenance Management System.
  4. Conducts cross-training in the techniques of testing, calibrating, operating, and troubleshooting biomedical systems for assigned biomedical equipment technicians.  
  5. Supervises and maintains quality control of services provided by outside vendors. 
  6. Establishes and maintains technical literature such as manufactures literature, reference standards, specifications, and other documents necessary for supporting the program.
  7. May serve as a member or advisor to the hospital’s Risk Management, Safety, and other appropriate committees as required by the supervisor.
  8. Conducts in-service classes and individual training for equipment users on subjects such as electrical safety, proper operations and care of equipment.
  9. May organize and validate work efforts of Biomedical Technician I’s in the department.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.




  • Associate’s degree in biomedical technology or equivalent in electronics, physics or U.S. military biomedical or technical training required.



  • Minimum of three years of experience in biomedical equipment repair.
  • Excellent understanding and experience on basic biomedical equipment e.g., patient monitors, defibrillators, various medical pumps,
  • Solid experience in at least 1 maintenance management system and parts ordering system.



  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) preferred.



  • Must be able to cope with repeated bending, squatting, stopping, prolonged standing, walking and climbing stairs. 
  • Must be able to life 50 to 75 pounds and safely operate hand tools, power tools and diagnostic test equipment. 
  • Understanding of Biomed’s role in the hospital accreditation process and the need to support that process with thorough work order documentation. Excellent analysis/problem solving skills.
  • Solid verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic medical terminology related to equipment function
  • Knowledge of bio-engineering, bio-electronics and instrumentation.
  • Skilled in using computers with Windows operating system.
  • Ability to navigate multiple software sites simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates cost-effective decision making skills.
  • Uses office automation hardware and software applications and diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced. 
  • Basic understanding of project management terms and methods



  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion more than 66% of the time.  
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 50 lbs. or less.      
  • Work requires frequent exposure to conditions involving minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments such as syringes or lancets.
  • Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.        
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
