RN Program Manager Sepsis

PeaceHealth is seeking a RN Program Manager Sepsis for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

The RN Program Manager Sepsis is a registered nurse who works in collaboration with the medical, nursing and hospital staff to provide multidisciplinary care to prevent patient harm.  The RN Program Manager Sepsis provides clinical, professional expertise for patients, families, physicians and staff members.


The RN Program Manager Sepsis is responsible for leading the implementation of all phases of the PeaceHealth system sepsis improvement work in all four of the Oregon Network hospitals. The incumbent  will work with each hospital to develop a gap analysis and adapt the standard work as developed by the sepsis system pilot for Code Sepsis in the ED, ICU and in-patient units and the evidence-based care of the septic patient at 3 and 6 hours. 


The RN Program Manager Sepsis must be able to lead multi-disciplinary teams, identify barriers to achieving process and outcome metrics, create and implement action plans to achieve targets. The RN Program Manager Sepsis will participate in the System sepsis committee and the Oregon hospital-based sepsis committees. The RN Program Manager Sepsis is also responsible for researching any changes in the evidenced-based management of septic patients and developing any changes to the standard work to continuously improve the Oregon Network sepsis program.  


After all phases of the standard work for the identification and care of the sepsis patient have been implemented the RN Program Manager Sepsis will assist in the program development of other clinical excellence initiatives as prioritized by the Oregon Network Executive team.




  • Evaluates patient outcomes
  • Facilitates evidence-based practice across all disciplines in accordance with current sepsis guidelines and standard work developed by the PeaceHealth system sepsis collaborative
  • Acts as a resource for staff and providers in developing a plan of care
  • Maintains current knowledge and competency in the management of the septic patient and in professional practice (e.g. conferences/workshops, professional organizations, etc.)



  • Manages the network sepsis program
  • Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others using an integrated approach toward achieving optimal patient outcomes
  • Role models critical thinking by demonstrating active and proactive problem-solving
  • Leads performance improvement processes in collaboration with the Lean Transformation Office
  • Develops and implements clinical excellence related policies and procedures reflecting current evidence



  • Identifies learning needs of professional staff and patient education
  • Provides education in order to advance staff, patient, and their families’ knowledge
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation of the interdisciplinary education plan
  • Maintains staff competency with regulatory requirements





  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required
  • Master’s degree in nursing preferred



  • 5 years minimum experience in nursing required
  • 2 years leadership experience/program management required
  • Critical care or emergency medicine experience preferred
  • Experience in similar quality improvement role preferred
  • Expertise in the diagnosis and management of sepsis preferred



  • Current Oregon RN license required by date of hire



  • Excellent verbal, negotiation, and written communication skills, particularly with key stakeholder groups such as physicians, other clinicians, and quality improvement staff
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Computers, clinical unit-based equipment, telephone, medical equipment, and other equipment



  • Work requires light physical exertion including sitting 67-100% of the time.          
  • Ability to seldom lift objects weighing up to 40 lbs.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.        
  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail 80-95% of work time.
