Data Analyst - Risk Management

PeaceHealth is seeking a Data Analyst - Risk Management for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of 8 Hours.

JOB SUMMARY
Produces data and analytics solutions used for risk management, clinical and operational purposes within PeaceHealth.  Serves as a consultant for data analysis.  Develops, collects, integrates, analyzes and prepares analytical reports on risk management, clinical, and/or operation needs.  Maintains knowledge of risk management and healthcare processes and information documented in PeaceHealth’s tools and systems as well as comprehensive knowledge of the data and information contained in clinical and operational applications, data warehouse and non-warehouse databases.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Gathers data from a variety of sources; generates reports and conducts research and analysis to support decision making.  Works with key stake holders to understand potential data issues and recommends solutions to meet organizational goals. Ensures accuracy and appropriateness of reported information.
2. Extracts and combines data appropriately to develop analytics to address both standard and ad hoc reporting needs.  Develops tables, charts and graphs as necessary for enhancing interpretation and information display.
3. Partners with key stakeholders to identify/clarify data and reporting needs, business definitions, business rules and information specifications.  Provides data interpretation, creates/maintains self-serve model, and provides recommendations to facilitate decision making.
4. Coordinates and ensures data quality, integrity, diagnose programs and implements solutions.  Builds and maintains storage of non-warehouse data. Uses software programs and tools, including statistical packages and programming languages to query, process, analyze data and automate reports. 
5. Presents findings of analysis both in written and verbal form to risk management and leadership, transferring understanding in a way that actionable.
6. Identifies and recommends internal improvement opportunities and contributes in making these improvements utilizing quality improvement techniques, methods and tools.
7. Develops and monitors defined risk management metrics that support network and system wide parameters in accordance with business and operational plans.
8. Maintains data; develops, documents and generates reports; maximize capabilities for tracking and reporting information.
9. Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Healthcare Research, Healthcare or related field required; equivalent education and training may substitute.    


EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:    

•    Minimum of two years analytic experience to include experience with statistical methods of aggregation, averaging, etc, and business intelligence/query/reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, SQL, TSQL, Visual Basic, SSRS, and Microsoft Office analysis tools.
•    Experience with retrieving and displaying data in usable formats that are actionable from a customer’s perspective.
•    In-depth knowledge of data base query principles and architecture.
•    Experience with the application of coding systems (ICD9, DRG, CPT) is preferred.
•    Medical Terminology, Anatomy/Physiology or Physical Science is preferred.
•    Experience facilitating complex projects and project specific discussions to caregivers and leaders with diverse professional backgrounds.
    
OTHER SKILLS:    

  • Support of RL6 software and proprietary software for data analysis, data optimization, and reporting
  • RL6 application support as needed
  • Customer service for users at all levels
  • Collaborative and dynamic environment (read: you may be working with a lot of people and things change quickly around here)
  • System level healthcare (i.e. an executive environment, not a hospital)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects and display flexibility in a fast paced and changing work environment. 
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, work ethic, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance multiple demands and time frames
  • Ability to work with internal customers to interpret their needs and report data/information back in a meaningful way.
  • General knowledge of healthcare environment and healthcare delivery systems.
  • Ability to write optimal SQL statements and queries from a variety of sources and create actionable, easy-to-use end user reports. Excellent mathematical and statistics skills.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
