PeaceHealth is seeking a Senior VP Financial Operations for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of Variable.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides system wide oversight and direction for network finance leadership and revenue cycle, including health information management, patient access, revenue cycle operations, and patient financial services.  Responsible for the development of and implementation of financial procedures, provides financial analyses and insight, and guides decision making to preserve the financial position and performance of the organization.  Provide shared services financial leadership oversight to deliver high value, efficient operations and strong financial performance.  Responsible for centralization, standardization and implementation of policies, processes and services for assigned areas.  Responsible for operational finance and ensuring alignment of community, network and system-wide initiatives.  Contributes to defining system strategic goals and ensures departmental goals and objectives are aligned with the overall PH System strategic goals and objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Manages and oversees financial activities including, community budgets, productivity management, reporting processes and audits. Observes trends and acts as a steward to safe-guard the assets of the organization.  Analyzes performance variances and unusual trends and keeps decision-makers informed of significant trends and events.
  2. Supports business development with development of business plans; forecasts critical milestones, potential obstacles, evaluates risk/benefits and presents alternate course of actions; provides guidance to maximize PeaceHealth financial position and successful implementation of growth opportunities.
  3. Assesses and evaluates financial performance of the organization with regard to long term operational goals, budgets and forecasts.  Analyzes actual financial results and budget variances for profit and loss, balance sheets and statement of cash flow.  Provides insight and recommendations to both short term and long-term growth plans.
  4. Ensures alignment of community and system Finance team for standard reports, documents and decision-making materials that cascade from system services. 
  5. Develops, leads and communicates a compelling vision, grounded in the mission and values, to achieve high standards of effectiveness for service areas to inspire them to pursue excellence through service, management tools, and efficient work processes and technology.  
  6. Leads the development of common policies, procedures and reports to govern financial decision-making including financial planning, expense management, etc. to ensure the achievement of financial objectives
  7. Leads revenue cycle services to best practice and create an exceptional consumer experience.
  8. Creates sustained solutions for alignment and integration of finance and revenue cycle with operations, reimbursement, managed care, compliance, and other shared services.
  9. Effectively develops and innovates new finance and revenue cycle strategies to address competitive, complex business issues and objectives. 
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS - Required unless otherwise stated

EDUCATION:         

  • Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Finance/Accounting required.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, or related degree required.

     

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:          

  • Minimum of 10 years of finance and revenue cycle experience or other relevant experience required.
  • Minimum 10 years management experience required.
  • Experience with managed care, Medicaid/Medicare, and commercial payers is required.
  • Experience with third party reimbursement mechanisms and federal guidelines regarding budget and financing required.
  • Current knowledge and anticipatory knowledge of upcoming accounting, compliance and financial reporting changes relevant to not-for profit, faith-based healthcare systems.

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:      

  • Certified Public Accountant certification is preferred.

     

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:     

  • Successful experience with the development and implementation of strong financial management and revenue strategies in partnership with senior leadership. Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting
  • Mission commitment reflected in strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience building and leading high performing teams.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships across functional areas and within a matrixed reporting structure.
  • Strong customer focus and results orientation.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and abstract reasoning skills.
  • Advanced skills utilizing finance and accounting software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization; verbally, in writing and in presentations
  • Demonstrated multi-disciplinary concept of health care delivery and collaborative team approach that involves clinical and non-clinical leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with executive presence and ability to motivate staff.
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Ability to effectively initiate, lead and implement change.
  • Ability to deliver financial results for areas of accountability.

 

SYSTEM SERVICES COGNITIVE/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time.    
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.        
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
