PeaceHealth is seeking a Sys VP Marketing and Communications (12489) for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of Variable.

Responsible for the development of PeaceHealth’s communication strategy encompassing all external and internal communications and public affairs including public relations (news and editorial coverage, press releases and articles]); media relations (traditional, digital and social; financial communications, in tandem with senior executives; strategic executive communications; crisis and change management communications; website and electronic communications; and brand and reputation management. Develops a leading-edge communications plan that promotes, enhances, and projects the PeaceHealth mission, vision, brand and reputation. Provides experienced, innovative leadership, with the ability to form and motivate teams in a service delivery model, and work with governing boards, senior leadership and community partners.  Responsible for development of the system branding, communications and marketing plans that support and advance the organizational vision, mission and reputation. 



  1. Serves as a key member of the system leadership team to define and advance PeaceHealth’s mission, brand and performance strategies and goals thorough creative, engaging communication platforms internally and externally.
  2. Participates in the development of the overall PeaceHealth system, community and foundation governance communications plan to shape engagement and enhance the PeaceHealth brand and culture across all geographic locations. Develops an annual message map for the President and CEO, Senior Leaders and Chief Executives in the communities, grounded in PeaceHealth’s mission and values.
  3. Develops internal and external communications engagement community strategies to advance the community health and build the PeaceHealth brand across all PeaceHealth communities.
  4. Uses consumer and community research data and trends to inform system and community specific communications/marketing/branding/media/ programs and strategies. 
  5. Develops media relations plans that incorporate PeaceHealth’s mission and values and reflects the specific needs of each geographic location.  Partners with key executives, board members and community leaders to help draft and deliver the plan.
  6. Manages media, reputation management and crisis management strategies in collaboration with legal, mission, operations and others as appropriate, employs a rapid response team model as appropriate. Identifies and develops key media spokespeople across the communities.  
  7. Works closely with senior leadership to develop and manage caregiver and provider engagement and recruitment strategies and manage labor communications strategies consistent with PeaceHealth’s values and culture. 
  8. Develops and manages service resources including budget and staffing structure/needs within approved parameters.
  9. Organizes strategies and annual goals to achieve alignment of key events, calendars, production and messaging throughout PeaceHealth, through standard work and collaboration with colleagues in a system service delivery model.
  10. Develops and promotes collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (internally and externally) and co-manages joint projects.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Management or related field required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job.



  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience leading internal and external corporate communications and affairs in a senior leadership position in strategic corporate communications where responsible for brand/identity building, social media, crisis management and/or similar experience.
  • Strong preference for non-profit, mission-based healthcare and hospital experience in a marketing and communications role
  • Experience leading marketing and communications teams across a system with distinct communities in a service delivery model. 
  • Proven strategy and media spokesperson experience in organizational reputation protection, issues management, crisis communications management, and labor union communications. 
  • Demonstrated track record in using consumer data to develop brand identity that reaches the hearts and minds of specific populations and communities.
  • Experience selecting and implementing social media and other digital technologies for real time communications and engagement.





  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Good conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex issue and develop relevant and realistic plans, programs and recommendations.
  • Ability to translate strategy into action and communicate complex issues in a simple manner.
  • Effective and engaging communicator with strong written and oral communications/presentation skills
  • Works collaboratively with various stakeholder groups; Boards, President/CEO, Senior Leadership Team and other clinical/operational, mission and philanthropic leaders.  
  • Ability to build, motivate and inspire diverse and highly productive, collaborative teams across geographic regions.
  • Ability to develop and deliver communications training to Executives, Leaders, and Caregivers designed to achieve desired mission and business goals and messages.
  • Results-oriented leadership and capable of demonstrating outcomes and ROI.



  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time.    
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.        
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
