System VP Revenue Cycle

PeaceHealth is seeking a System VP Revenue Cycle for a 1.0 full time equivalent Exempt position. This position will be working Day shift with shift durations of Variable.

JOB SUMMARY:

Directs, controls and is accountable for a function, complex department or transformational change which impacts specific services across the system. Develops long and short-term business strategies, operational plans and oversees implementation.  Manages the design, structure, development and planning issues within scope of direction.  Responsible for quality, service and regulatory compliance for areas of responsibility.  Responsible for setting the vision and strategy to deliver high value, efficient Revenue Cycle services through a shared services model. Set organization-wide Revenue Cycle goals aligned with business/mission strategy – in partnership with CFO’s.  Responsible for centralization, standardization and implementation of Revenue Cycle policies, processes and services for PeaceHealth.  Oversee and coordinate the system-wide processes for patient registration, billing, collection, Bridge Assistance (charity care program), charge master maintenance, and the related “upstream” and “downstream” information needs of various internal and external customers.  The VP is the “operational owner” of information systems that support revenue cycle management for all business lines (hospitals, physician clinics, home health & hospice, home infusion, long-term care, laboratory) and is responsible for the effective, and continuously improving, utilization of them. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Accountable and responsible for directing the day to day operational functions of the following departments in the corresponding regions and business units:  financial counseling including administration of Bridge Assistance, admissions/registration, coding audit and education (medical groups), billing, collections & follow-up, cash collection and accounting, customer service and payor contract auditing.
  2. Builds caregiver engagement and increases caregiver service, contribution and commitment to the organization. 
  3. Develop, lead and communicates a compelling vision to achieve high standards of effectiveness for service areas which inspires them to pursue excellence through effective and efficient work processes and technology.  
  4. Effectively envisions and develops new Revenue Cycle strategies to address competitive, complex business issues and objectives.  Gains organizational support for implementation of aligned Revenue Cycle programs and policies.
  5. Provide leadership and direction to the Revenue Cycle caregivers; creating and communicating a vision that motivates them to pursue high standards of excellence. Motivate, facilitate, mentor and coach caregivers to deliver high quality, cost effective services.  Maintain cost to collect ratios within established standards.
  6. Develop annual budget and other financial measures and reports for the Revenue Cycle division.
  7. Chair the Health System Revenue Cycle Counterpart Groups.  Set direction, plan and organize agendas, and facilitate communication in a timely manner.
  8. Coordinate and monitor Revenue Cycle performance measurements in all networks.  Maintain statistical measurement methods and report out network and Health System performance against agreed upon benchmarks.
  9. Lead Revenue Cycle standardization efforts and oversee Health System wide process improvement projects.
  10. Oversee the identification, analysis and resolution of compliance, reimbursement, and internal audit issues involving Revenue Cycle in a timely manner.
  11. Manage and maintain Health System-wide Revenue Cycle policies, standards, processes and procedures.
  12. Manage Accounts Receivable inventory to within established standards through an awareness of current developments and implementation of a sound and documented system of processing.
  13. Maintains current knowledge and understanding of regulations, industry trends, current best practices, new developments, and applicable laws regarding human resources.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:          

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree required or a combination of education and professional experience that provides the caregiver with the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job.

 

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:          

  • Minimum of ten years progressive managerial experience in both clinic and hospital Patient Financial Services environment.   
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience required.

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:       

  • HFMA or MGMA certification desirable.

 

OTHER SKILLS:    

  • Ability to deliver financial results for areas of accountability. High level of business acumen including intimate knowledge of healthcare industry and trends.
  • Advanced skills in multiple areas of Revenue Cycle.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering value through service excellence and performance outcomes.
  • Experience and advanced knowledge in current Revenue Cycle and EMR tools and technology
  • Experience in working in a matrix relationship model.
  • Strong Analytics and experience in establishment of Metrics, Outcomes and Service Level Agreements
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, Federal and State laws with a working knowledge of insurance and billing regulations. 
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation communications skills and techniques
  • Change leader, with ability to inspire and engage teams to achieve high levels of service excellence
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work efficiently and responsibly in a collaborative environment with multiple work demands and short time frames;
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and support the mission, philosophy and values of PeaceHealth.

 

PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion from up to 65% of the time.   
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.          
  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.     
  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (up to 65% of work time).
